How it works
What does 660nm red light do at the scalp?
Mechanism as described in published Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT) research on androgenetic alopecia; the cited trials (Lanzafame 2014; Jimenez 2014) used 655nm devices. Not a claim about individual results. Those trials tested cleared 655nm laser devices, not the Folliq massager, which has not been clinically tested. The Folliq massager is a cosmetic scalp-care device and is not intended to treat hair loss.

Reviews
What do Folliq's 425 reviewers say after 90 days?
Six minutes is exactly how long I leave conditioner in anyway, so it slotted straight into what I already do. Week eleven now, the part is noticeably less scalp-y.
Every other thing I bought for my hair ended up in a drawer. This one hangs where I can see it, and six minutes is short enough that I do not talk myself out of it. Four months in.
I was skeptical after the vitamins did nothing. The pillow was the first thing I noticed — then the drain. My daughter borrowed it and ordered her own.
I keep it on the stand by the bed and do it while I read. Easier to remember than anything in the bathroom cupboard.
Packed it between two jumpers, no case needed. Three weeks away and I did not skip a single session.
I do it sitting on the edge of the bath before bed. It has become the part of the evening I look forward to.
I do not even go to the bathroom for it any more — stool, towel, done. Density at the part is better after four months.
She asked what I had changed. That was week fourteen. I had not mentioned it to anyone.
Results are real. Charging cable could be longer, I have to charge it on the floor by the outlet.
Shedding is down and there are new hairs at the temples, but the crown has barely moved in five months. Keeping it, adjusting expectations.
Honestly I started it for the light and stayed for the massage. Best six minutes of my morning.
I have a graveyard of serums under the sink. This one is still in rotation at month six.

Why the dose is 4 J/cm²
2021 systematic review · Journal of Clinical & Aesthetic Dermatology (Lueangarun et al.)
The review describes a double-blind trial in which 44 women used a home light-therapy device at 4.21 J/cm² per session. Over 17 weeks it reported a terminal hair count increase of 63.67%, against 12.48% in the sham group.
That trial tested another manufacturer's device, not the Folliq massager, which has not been clinically tested. It is cited here for one reason: 4.21 J/cm² is essentially the dose our six-minute session delivers. It is not a claim about what you will see.
