You're not imagining it
It starts with small moments in the mirror
A wider part under the bathroom light. A photo taken from above. A ponytail that feels a little thinner. It happens slowly, to women and men alike, and you're far from the only one.
-
My part looks wider than it used to.
-
I've started avoiding photos from above.
-
I style my hair to hide my temples.
-
My ponytail feels thinner every year.
Noticing it early is a good thing. It means there's still plenty of hair to look after.
A gentle note: Folliq is made for gradual changes, while there's still hair to look after. If your hair is shedding suddenly or in patches, a quick check with your doctor is worth it first.
How red light works on your hair
Light in, energy up, fuller-looking hair over time.
-
Light reaches the follicles
Red light at 650–660 nm reaches the upper layers of the scalp, and invisible near-infrared at 850 nm goes a little deeper, down to the hair follicles. 97 LEDs cover the part, crown and temples at once.
-
Follicles get more energy
Research suggests follicle cells absorb this light and make more ATP, the energy they use to grow hair (Avci et al., Lasers Surg Med 2014).
-
More hairs keep growing
Over months, that can help more hairs stay in their growth phase for longer, so your part and crown look fuller.
Effortless, in just 10–20 minutes a session
Place the cap on clean, dry hair and adjust the strap so the lining sits close to your scalp. It fits like any other cap.
Choose 10 or 20 minutes and the red and near-infrared LEDs switch on. New to it? Start with 10. The timer runs by itself, so there's nothing to watch.
Read, work or unwind. When the timer ends, the cap beeps and switches itself off. Repeat 3 to 4 times a week.

Not a promise. Real research.
You've tried the shampoos. Red light was put to the test.
Half the people used real red light, half a fake device that looked the same. Nobody knew which one they had. After four months, the real-light group had more new hairs.
These studies tested other red-light devices, so the fairest test is your own.
The next four months will pass either way. Spend them doing something for your hair.
90-day home trial, used is fine. Free returns.
Numbers are rounded from the published studies. Folliq has not been tested in its own clinical study and is not FDA-cleared. Individual results vary.
Expert opinion
What dermatologists say about red light
Independent doctors, speaking publicly about red light therapy and hair.
-
Dr. Zakia Rahman
Clinical Professor of Dermatology, Stanford Medicine
Used over multiple months consistently, red light has been shown to regrow thinning hair.
-
Dr. Omer Ibrahim
Board-certified dermatologist, Chicago
Low level red light can stimulate hair follicles and keep them in the growth phase longer, especially for androgenetic hair loss.
-
Dr. Melanie Palm
Board-certified dermatologist and cosmetic surgeon
Patients typically need consistent red light therapy sessions for at least 3-4 months to notice reduced shedding, with visible improvements in hair density often taking 6 months or more.
-
American Academy of Dermatology
Public guidance, reviewed by board-certified dermatologists
In large randomized controlled trials (best type of study for drawing conclusions), red light therapy has led to some hair regrowth, with increased hair thickness and length.

Why an LED cap, and why this one
A cap you'll actually wear
It looks like an everyday cap, has no cords, and runs for 10 or 20 minutes while you get on with your day. Results come from showing up week after week, so it has to fit your life.
Months to judge, not weeks
Hair grows slowly. That's why you get 90 days to try it at home, used is fine, plus a 2-year warranty. Most marketplace caps give you about 30 days.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Folliq Red Light Cap for women and men?
Yes, it's made for both. The LEDs sit over the part, the crown and the temples: the places where changes tend to show first, whether you're a woman or a man.
LED or laser: does an LED cap actually work?
The Folliq cap uses LEDs, not laser diodes. What the research tracks is the light that reaches your scalp: its wavelength, its strength (mW/cm²) and the dose per session (J/cm²). To be fair about the evidence, laser devices have the most of it. A 2021 meta-analysis of FDA-cleared home devices found the largest effect with laser-only devices, and a smaller but still significant one with devices that combine lasers and LEDs (Lueangarun et al.). LED-only trials are fewer: in a 2025 placebo-controlled trial of LED caps, hair density rose compared with a sham cap when the active versions were pooled, though no single version reached significance on its own (Thomas et al.). Our cap is not FDA-cleared and hasn't been in its own trial. What we offer: published numbers, 5 mW/cm² (±20%) at the scalp and about 3 J/cm² in a 10-minute session; a soft, cordless cap you'll actually wear; and 90 days to try it at home.
Does a red light cap work for women after menopause?
It's made for women as much as for men. The research is a fair guide, with one gap: a placebo-controlled trial in women aged 18 to 60 found a larger rise in hair count with red light than with a sham device after 16 weeks (Lanzafame et al., 2014), and another trial included men and women up to 65 (Yoon et al., 2020). No trial has looked at menopause on its own. Thinning around menopause often has more than one cause, so if your hair is falling out suddenly, in patches, or alongside tiredness or other changes, see your doctor first to check thyroid, iron and hormones. The cap fits alongside whatever they suggest.
When will I see a difference, and is early shedding normal?
Give it months, not weeks. Hair grows about a centimetre a month, and the placebo-controlled studies we cite counted hairs at 16 weeks, some at 24 to 26 weeks. A fair plan: use the cap 3 to 4 times a week, photograph your part or crown in the same light in week one, compare at 8, 12 and 16 weeks, and judge it properly at around 6 months. Some people notice a few more hairs in the brush in the first weeks of any new routine; this hasn't been well studied for light devices. If shedding is heavy, lasts more than two months or comes out in patches, see a doctor.
What does the Folliq Red Light Cap cost?
The cap on its own (Essential) is $199, about 60 cents a day over a year. The Ritual set with our two oils is $219 and the Complete set is $249. Every set ships free, comes with a 90-day home trial (used is fine) and a 2-year warranty. Nothing to subscribe to and no refills.
Why $199, when some caps cost $40 and laser caps $800 or more?
Most low-cost caps don't say how strong their light is, so you can't compare them with the studies. We publish ours: 5 mW/cm² (±20%) at the scalp, about 3 J/cm² in a 10-minute session or 6 J/cm² in 20 minutes, red light at 650–660 nm plus near-infrared at 850 nm. You also get a 90-day home trial (send it back even if you've used it) and a 2-year warranty. Laser caps at $800 and up often hold FDA clearance and have their own trials, which ours doesn't; if that matters most to you, they're a fair choice. Ours is for people who want published numbers, a soft cordless cap and time to try it properly at home.
I already use minoxidil or finasteride. Can I add the cap?
Yes. Many people use light alongside them, not instead of them. Keep taking anything your doctor prescribed: the cap doesn't replace it. Wear the cap first on a clean, dry scalp, then apply minoxidil or anything topical afterwards, so nothing sits between the light and your skin. If you're on a prescription like finasteride, or you're not sure, check with your doctor before adding something new.
Is this the same as a red light therapy hat?
Yes. A red light cap and a red light therapy hat are the same kind of device: a wearable cap with LEDs in the lining. The Folliq version looks like a regular baseball cap, is cordless, and uses red (650–660 nm) and near-infrared (850 nm) light from 97 LEDs.
Red light cap before and after: what can I expect?
Think in months, not weeks. The placebo-controlled studies of red-light devices we cite counted hairs at about 16 weeks, so take a photo of your part or crown in the same light before you start and compare at 8, 12 and 16 weeks. The before-and-after photos on this page come from the manufacturer's own user trial of the device, not from a Folliq study, and individual results vary. If nothing has changed for you after 90 days, send it back.
How fast is delivery?
Orders ship from our warehouses in the US and Germany, free and tracked. Estimated delivery: 2 to 4 business days to the US, Germany, Austria and the UK; 2 to 8 to the rest of the EU; 4 to 7 to Switzerland; 2 to 7 to Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Japan; 7 to 10 everywhere else. US and EU orders have no customs fees.
How often should I use a red light cap?
Wear the Folliq Red Light Cap for 10 or 20 minutes, 3 to 4 times a week, ideally with a day in between. The timer switches the cap off by itself. Showing up week after week matters more than any single session.
Can I use the cap with coloured, curly or long hair?
Yes. The Folliq cap works with any hair type or colour. Use it on clean, dry hair and part it loosely so the lining sits close to your scalp.
Does the red light cap get hot?
No. The Folliq Red Light Cap doesn't noticeably warm your scalp, and you can take it off at any time.
Can I wear the red light cap outside?
Yes. The Folliq cap is cordless, splash-resistant (IPX4) and looks like a regular baseball cap, so nobody needs to know what's inside.
Is the Folliq Red Light Cap cordless?
Completely. No wires and no battery pack: the 2,000 mAh battery is built in and charges over USB-C. (It doesn't run while charging.)
What's in the Ritual and Complete sets, and how do the oils fit in?
Ritual adds a Rosemary & Batana Hair Oil (50 ml) and a 100% Unrefined Batana Oil (120 ml) to the cap. Complete adds two of each, plus a Scalp Roller. Wear the cap first, on clean, dry hair. Afterwards, massage a few drops of the Rosemary & Batana Hair Oil into your scalp. On wash days, use the Batana Oil as a pre-wash treatment: warm a little in your hands, massage it into your scalp and hair, and leave it on for at least 20 minutes before washing. The oils are cosmetic care for your scalp and hair; the cap doesn't need them.
Is the Folliq a red light hat?
Yes, and one you'd actually wear: a soft, wireless red light hat that looks like a regular baseball cap, with 97 red and near-infrared LEDs inside. Put it on for 10 or 20 minutes, 3 to 4 times a week, and get on with your evening.
Can I use a red light cap every day?
You don't need to. The routine is 3 to 4 sessions a week, ideally with a day in between. Showing up week after week matters more than extra sessions.
Can I use a red light cap on wet hair?
Dry is best. On clean, dry hair the lining sits close to your scalp, right where you want the light. The cap handles splashes (IPX4) but isn't waterproof.
Is a red light cap safe to use?
The Folliq Red Light Cap is gentle by design: LEDs, not lasers, at about 5 mW/cm², with no noticeable heat on your scalp. Just don't look into the lit lining. Please skip it if you're under 18, have light-triggered epilepsy, take medication that causes light sensitivity, or have skin cancer or open wounds on your scalp. Pregnant? Ask your doctor first.
Are red light caps worth it?
The only way to know is to try one properly, at home, for a few months. That's what our guarantee is for: if it isn't for you, send it back, even used.
Safety & who shouldn't use it
