The ten-minute ritualLook rested.
No needles.

Three evenings a week, you lie back and close your eyes. Ten minutes of warm red light that is only yours.

  • 633nm red light you can see
  • 830nm near-infrared you can't
  • 10minutes, hands-free
  • 3×a week is enough

About 1 in 3 lights look off while the mask is on. Those are the near-infrared ones, working: your eyes can't see that light.

The research

Does a red light face mask work? What published studies found.

Short answer: for some people, a modest and gradual change. In randomised studies with other devices, red and near-infrared light on the face gave softer-looking fine lines around the eyes after 4 to 12 weeks. In a 2025 randomised home-mask trial (Park et al., 59 people analysed), 86% of mask users had better-rated crow's feet at week 12, against 17% with a sham mask. None of these studies used the Folliq mask, and results vary from person to person.

How much light per session

Light dose per session in J/cm². Light works on a dose window: more is not better, and more power means more heat on your face.

  1. Mota 2023 · clinic device3.8 J/cm²
  2. Folliq · red only4.8 J/cm²
  3. Folliq · red + near-infrared7.2 J/cm²
  4. Wunsch 2014 · full-body unit~9 J/cm²

Doses from published studies, measured on other devices. Folliq figures are engineer-confirmed design specifications; production units will be measured independently and we will publish the full report here, whatever it shows. A similar dose does not guarantee similar results. Why 12 mW/cm² and not more? More power means more heat on your face. The Folliq mask gives 7.2 J/cm² per session by design, between the two studies in the chart above. The 2025 home-mask trial (Park et al., Medicine, 2025) used up to 10 mW/cm² per wavelength, 9 minutes, five times a week for 12 weeks; we chose three longer sessions a week. How wavelength and dose work: our plain-English guide, written for the scalp. The studies behind our hair devices, with their limits, are on our clinical evidence page.

Why does Folliq say 12 mW/cm² when other masks say 30 to 80?

Because they are two different measurements. A figure of 30 to 80 mW/cm² is usually a peak: the reading right in front of a single LED, where the light is strongest. The Folliq mask's 12 mW/cm² (8 red + 4 near-infrared) is the average across your whole face at skin level, gaps between the LEDs included. Over a 10-minute session that gives 7.2 J/cm² (12 mW/cm² × 600 seconds).

Peak vs average: two different numbers

What a dermatologist and the AAD say about LED masks in general

Some clinical studies show LED face masks can benefit the skin, she says, but results vary and long-term studies are lacking.

About Folliq

Who is behind this mask.

Folliq was founded in 2026 by Sebastian Ciobanu, who runs it from the Netherlands. He is not a doctor, and we will not pretend otherwise.

The mask is built to a written engineering specification (v2.1, October 2026): wavelengths, average light across the face, how much light the eye cups let through, and heat limits. You can read the customer summary of it as a PDF. Production units will go to an independent lab for irradiance, eye safety and surface temperature, and we will publish that report on this page, whatever it shows.

FAQ

LED face mask questions, answered honestly.

How does the 90-day trial work?
Use it for up to 90 days. If it is not for you, email us and we will send a return label. Used is fine, and return shipping is on us. We refund to your original payment method once it arrives back.
Where does it ship from, and how fast?
Free tracked delivery.
Is it safe for my eyes?
The Folliq mask has opaque eye cups built in, designed to let through no more than 0.1% of the light, no LED sits within 15 mm of the eye openings, and the light only switches on once the mask touches your face. Keep your eyes closed during the session. If you have an eye condition, ask your eye doctor first.
Who should not use it?
Please do not use it if you are pregnant; if you take medication or use skincare that makes skin sensitive to light (ask your doctor); if you have a condition triggered by light or an eye condition (ask your eye doctor); or for a child. If you have melasma or pigment spots, start with red only and short sessions, and stop if any area darkens. For your first session, try 5 minutes and check your skin the next day. Stop if you get eye strain or a headache, and skip broken or sunburnt skin. The full list is in the quick-start and safety guide in the box. Our scalp devices have their own list on our safety page.
When will I notice a difference?
Light care is gradual. Give it eight to twelve weeks of regular use before you judge. Changes are usually subtle: skin that looks brighter and more even. Results vary from person to person. That is why the trial is 90 days, not 30.
Other masks say 30 to 80 mW/cm². Is 12 mW/cm² enough?
Those figures are usually a peak reading from a single LED. The Folliq mask's 12 mW/cm² (8 red + 4 near-infrared) is the average across your whole face at skin level, which gives 7.2 J/cm² in a 10-minute session. That sits inside the per-session dose range used in published facial studies. A 2025 randomised home-mask trial allowed up to 10 mW/cm² per wavelength for 9 minutes, five times a week; we chose three 10-minute sessions a week. Light works on a dose window: past it, more power adds heat rather than benefit. Production units will be measured independently and we will publish the report here.
What is the difference between red and near-infrared light?
Red light (633 nm) is the glow you can see, and near-infrared light (830 nm) is invisible to the eye. Red light is absorbed mostly near the surface of the skin, while near-infrared reaches a little deeper. That is why about 1 in 3 LEDs look off while the mask is on: those are the near-infrared ones. The studies on this page used red light, near-infrared light, or both.
Should I get an LED face mask or a red light panel?
It depends on what you want to cover. A red light panel can be more powerful and is sometimes cheaper, and it can also reach your neck, chest or body; but you sit still at a set distance, the light on your face changes with that distance, and you protect your eyes yourself, usually with goggles. A mask sits at a fixed distance on your face, leaves your hands free and has the eye cups built in. For the face alone, a mask is the simpler routine; if you also want light on your body, a panel may suit you better.
Is this the same mask I can find cheaper online?
The Folliq mask may look similar to masks sold elsewhere. Like most LED masks, it comes from a specialist manufacturer that also makes masks for other sellers. What $249 buys is what we stand behind: stated wavelengths and dose, built-in eye cups, 90 days to try it even if used, free returns, a 2-year Folliq warranty, free tracked delivery from EU and US warehouses, and a person who answers. If you would rather buy without those, that is a fair choice.
Is it FDA cleared?
No. Folliq Red Light Therapy Face Mask is sold as a cosmetic device for how your skin looks and is not FDA 510(k) cleared. It is not intended to diagnose, treat or prevent any condition.
Is it cordless?
Partly. The Folliq mask runs from a rechargeable battery controller connected to the mask by a 1.2 m cable, so there is no wall plug during a session. One charge lasts about 4 full sessions, and the controller charges over USB-C in about 90 minutes with an 18 W USB-C charger (not included).
Will it fit my face? I have a beard, a small face, or a high nose bridge.
The mask bends to the face, it is open around the nostrils and mouth with a soft channel over the bridge of the nose, and both straps adjust. It fits adult faces from 17 to 21.5 cm, forehead to chin. The contact sensors sit on the forehead and both cheeks, so the mask needs to touch those areas to start. Not sure about your beard or face shape? Send us a photo and we will tell you whether it fits.
Has it been studied on darker skin?
Less than on lighter skin. The 2025 home-mask trial included skin types II to V (all participants of Asian descent); most other studies included types II to IV. If your skin darkens easily, start with red only (a lower dose, 4.8 J/cm²) and short sessions, and stop if you notice any change.
